Samos Island is located 330 km East of Athens and just of the coast of Asia Minor. It is one of the major tourist attractions of Greece and thousands of Greek and foreign tourists visit it all around the year but especialy in the summer.

You can go from Athens to Samos either by boat (speedboat or conventional) or by plane.

Boats : Samos is connected via Ferry to many islands and ports of the Aegean sea such as: Kavala, Ikaria, Fournoi, Patmos, Kos, Leros, Kalymnos, paros, Mykonos, Syros, Tinos, Chios, Mitelene, Kusadasi (Turkey) and many more.

Boats, departing from the port of Piraeus, arrive to Samos after:
Conventional ship (ferryboat) – approximately twelve (12) hours depending of the intermediate stops to other ports.
Speedboat – six (6) to eight (8) hours depending of the intermediate stops to other ports.
The cost of the boat ticket is:
Conventional ship (ferryboat) : third class costs approx. 20 Euros and first or second class (with cabin) from forty (40) to fifty-five (55) Euros
Speedboat : Second class will cost you approx. forty (40) euros and first class approx. fifty (50) Euros.

In case you want to transport your car as well this will cost you seventy-five (75) Euros additionally. A motorbike is charged at approx. seventeen (17) Euros and a motorcycle approx. thirty (30) euros.

Airplane : If you have chosen to visit Samos via airplane, you should know that (departing from Athens) it will take you forty-five (45) minutes to get to the island and it will cost you approx. eighty (80) euros. The types of airplanes that fly to Samos are usually Olympic Airways’ ATR 72-202 & 42-320.

You can also fly to Samos from Thessalonica, Chios, Mitelene, Lemnos and other airports across the country.

Each summer there are also many Flying Dolphin and other small ships that connect Samos with ports around the Aegean.

 

 

Starting on the 25th of March and till the 28th of October there are many charter flights connecting Samos with various European (mainly) countries.   These flights are organized by major Greek or Foreign tourist agencies and transfer the bulk of the summer tourists to the island.

 

The local “KTEL” busses carry out transportation within the island. They have a quite good schedule and they connect the many villages and cities of the island in a satisfactory manner.
