Area of Mavratzei village located at the south of the island. Population is 250 inhabitants, 200 at the village and 50 at surrounding areas.

The monk Nile, after six years stay in the Megali Panagia monastery, in 1592 came in this region and built a new chapel in honor of the Holy Cross, in the same place where they found homonym icon.
At the village was developed pottery craft bacause of the large amounts of raw material (clay) that is close to the village at the area “kokkinopouria” (=red scale).
