The history of the cave begins from the ancient times, since there are indications that in the cave lived the Samian Sibyl “Phyto” (Sibyl where a women in trance who prophesied the future). In the Byzantine years and then the same cave was used as a sacred place of Christianity and as a place of asceticism.
The aim of the project was to supply water from the source of “Ayades”, (hidden at the mountain away from enemies), to the ancient city of Samos, through mount “Kastron”. The result was a remarkable water pipeline, total length 2,385 meters, of which 1,035 through tunnel.
Thermae complex was built in the second half of the 2nd c AD (Roman period), which joined into a single organized space including sports facilities in ancient city of Samos at 6th c BC period
